Getting started

What is OTO Assess?

OTO Assess uses professional scenarios to help teachers and leaders reflect on their decisions. Your report explores strengths, questions for reflection and development priorities. It is a starting point for coaching and professional development, rather than a judgement of your workplace performance.

Which assessments are available?

The Teacher Development Assessment has 80 scenarios across planning, instruction, assessment, culture and professional practice. The Leadership Development Assessment has 96 scenarios across observe, reflect, shape and create. You can complete either assessment or both when they have been assigned to you.

Do I need to pay if my organisation has assigned an assessment?

No. Your organisation provides access through its assessment allocation. Sign in using the assigned email address and open the assessment in your workspace. You do not need to purchase the same assessment yourself.

I already have an OTOvios account. Do I need another one?

No. When an assessment is assigned to your verified existing account, it appears in your OTO Assess workspace. The notification email takes you to that assessment. Use your existing account and the email address your organisation assigned it to.

How do I start if I am new to OTOvios?

Open your OTO Assess invitation, activate your account, choose a password and accept the assessment invitation. Use the invited email address. If your activation link has expired, contact your organisation administrator or OTO Assess support for a new invitation.

Can I get an assessment as an individual?

Individual assessment prices and availability are shown on the separate individual access page. Organisation assignments are managed through your workspace and do not require an individual purchase.

Individual assessment information

Completing your assessment

Is there a strict 60-minute time limit?

Allow around 60 minutes and aim to complete the assessment in one sitting. This is guidance rather than a hard cut-off. If you need more time, you can finish the assessment without losing your saved answers.

What happens if I lose connection or sign out?

Successfully saved answers remain on your account. Sign in again and choose Continue to resume from the next unanswered question. If a save was interrupted, reload saved progress before continuing so you see the question the server has recorded.

Can I return to an earlier question?

No. Each answer is locked when you save and continue. Read the scenario and response options carefully before moving forward. You can pause and sign out, but returning resumes your saved position rather than reopening earlier answers.

Does an unfinished assessment expire automatically?

No automatic expiry applies while an assessment remains unfinished. An authorised administrator can revoke an unfinished assignment. If this happens, contact your organisation administrator or support to discuss your access.

How should I choose my answers?

Choose the response closest to how you would act in that situation. Work independently and answer honestly. The report is most useful when you bring real examples from your practice to a coaching conversation and reflect on differences between your selected responses and what you do at work.

Your report and information

Who can read my report?

You can read your report. For an organisation assignment, authorised report administrators at that organisation can also view it. You acknowledge this arrangement before starting. An organisation assignment does not give that organisation access to your privately purchased reports or reports from other organisations.

How can I use my report?

Use it to prepare for a coaching conversation, identify evidence from your practice and choose development priorities. The leadership report includes prompts for executive leadership coaching and short-term, medium-term and long-term development. The report supports reflection and action; it does not certify readiness for a role.

Is this a validated psychometric test or a staff ranking?

No. OTO Assess is a professional development insight tool. Its response patterns describe choices made in scenarios, rather than measuring observed workplace performance. It should not be treated as a diagnosis, a staff league table or proof of suitability for a promotion.

Does the Teacher report relate to teaching standards?

The report includes an explanation of relevant teaching standards and the coverage of its scenarios. Use this to guide professional reflection and gather evidence from your own practice. This does not mean the assessment is endorsed by a standards body or provides a professional qualification.

How is the personalised report created?

The assessment uses authored scenarios and response guidance. AI-assisted writing turns the saved assessment evidence into personalised development feedback. The report-generation input excludes your name, email address and organisation details. Names used to label your report are added by OTO Assess.

Do timing and response patterns prove whether someone answered honestly?

No. Completion, timing and response patterns provide context for reflection. They cannot reliably prove that someone used AI, tried to present an ideal image or answered dishonestly. Discuss unexpected patterns alongside real examples of practice.

For organisation administrators

Can I assign Teacher and Leadership to the same person?

Yes. Open Invite staff, select Teacher, Leadership or both, and enter the participant details. Each assessment uses one place from the matching allocation. You can invite one person or several people at once.

Do I need to create subdivisions?

No. Subdivisions are optional labels for departments, campuses or branches. You can leave them blank. They do not change your organisation permissions.

Why can I onboard staff but not view a report?

Participant onboarding and report viewing are separate permissions. Your organisation workspace shows the actions your account is authorised to use. Contact OTO Assess support if the administrator permissions need to be reviewed.
